Ukiah Valley Democratic Club Meeting Minutes
4/8/09 Members Present:Wendy Pollitz, Gail Johnson, J.R. Rose, Gabrielle Johnson, Rosalind Peterson, Joelle Sumski, Katharine Cole, Lois Lockart, Jennifer Poole, Val Muchowski, Katarazyna Rolzinski (11) The meeting was called to order by President Wendy Pollitz at 6:40pm. 1. The agenda was presented and approved. 2. Treasurer’s Report was presented. There is a balance of $2,829.52.Motion to approve by J.R. Rose, 2nd by Katharine Cole. Approved. Two $250. donations have since come in to support our May 16 Spring Conference.More phone calls need to be made to solicit more donations. 3. Minutes of the last general meeting of 3/9/09 were handed out. Joelle Sumski made a motion to approve, 2nd by Gabrielle Johnson. Approved. Old Business: 4. Senior Advocacy Task Force:J.R. Rose continues to take the Resolution supporting Seniors affected by Social Security COLA’s reducing benefits, to other counties and cities to get their endorsements. New Business: Club Issues Elections for Club officers will be held at the June meeting.Wendy is willing to serve one more 2 year term.Katharine Cole has taken the V.P. opening.Ginger Pohlson’s term as Treasurer runs until June 2010.Joelle Sumski is willing to serve as Secretary starting July 1. Other Executive Committee Members:Membership-Gail Johnson & Gabrielle JohnsonPublicity & Promotion-Katarzyna RolzinskiMonthly Newsletter/Constant Contact -Katharine Cole, Jennifer Poole. 1st issue will be May 1. Turn in items by the 20th of preceding month. Newsletter will have a link to the Club’s website where the Agenda and Minutes will be posted.Executive Committee will meet one time a month, a week before the Club meeting. *New Meeting Date and Location: The 4th Wed. of each month at WaMu Bank, now called Chase Bank, on the corner of Gobbi and State. 6:30-8:30. Political Policy issues:A. Rosalind Peterson presented information on expanded Navy weapons training, which includes waters off of Mendocino County. She reported on the related hearing with the Mendocino County Supervisors . Comments may be posted on the Navy’s website. B. Rosalind also presented information on petitions to save Social Security. She noted that both Republicans and Democrats are very supportive of this. She noted that Social Security is referred to as Entitlements in Congress.Club will review Social Security petition for adoption and put on agenda for next month. Motion by J.R. and 2nd by Joelle. No signatures on petition are being solicited at this time. C. Timber Harvest to log Noyo River headlands update by Jennifer Poole.Logging along the Skunk Train route is going to 2nd Review due to citizen outrage. It is about to get approved and then there will be a lawsuit. Citizen comments will help in a lawsuit. DDR is circulating petitions to get their initiative on the ballot to change the General Plan zoning on the old Masonite site from Industrial to Mixed Use to include Big Box stores. A map of their proposal and petition information was passed out. Recommended not to sign petition. E. Lois Lockart reported on the Pinoleville Nation Casino plans at the old Ken Fowler car lot and expressed opposition to this. Spring ConferenceWill be Sat. May 16th 10-2:30 at Saturday Afternoon Club.There are two panels on Water and Land and local community groups are tabling. Flyers/Invitations will be sent out next week. *Helpers are needed for day of event. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm by Wendy Pollitz, President. Next meeting is April 29, 2009 at 6:30 to discuss Spring Conference Planning.
